about

Spider Goat Canyon's 8th studio album ‘Anam Cara’ was recorded live in a single day by Max Ducker at Cellar Sessions Studio in Melbourne (January, 2016). A modicum of bass overdubs, were recorded at the end of the session to bolster the overall mood and thickness of the sound. Mastering was handled by Alan Smith at Bergerk Studio in WA.

The album is a collection of written material that accumulated by way of improvisation which has been a feature of the band as a duo since the departure of original guitarist Steve Brick in 2012.

During the first decade as a three-piece Steve was instrumental in bringing structure to Spider Goat's studio recorded material. Upon Steve’s departure, remaining members Deryck and Josh felt the urge to follow a more free-formed improvisational approach moving forward. Conversely, the songs that comprise ‘Anam Cara’ resulted the bands most structured and focused recording to date.

During the bands 14-year existence, ‘Anam Cara’ still embodies the continuation and celebration of weirdness of the first 7 albums whilst cementing a new sense of structure in this new duo format. The album embodies the juxta positioning of light and shade, groove and disorder, noise and melody that spans the album’s 10 tracks.

Coming Soon:

‘Loud Out Loud’ – a double album compilation of DIY band room recordings. Available soon via the Spider Goat Canyon Bandcamp page.
